Weight Loss Overload

Proverbs 2:11 (NIV) Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.

It is only day 4 of the new year and you may already be experiencing weight loss overload. Everyone everywhere is talking about it. I think I’ve heard about those who lost half their weight on every network on the TV. While I do appreciate People Magazine’s story and all the other successful reports, I think my head must be spinning. I’m just a little dizzy.

Clearly, there are a ton of diets that have all worked…and failed. If you’re trying to choose what to do next, these success stories may not help at all. Not because any plan doesn’t work. Rather they all seem to work very well. Celebrities and everyday Joes & Janes have found success on almost any program. Of course, we hear the stories of failures as well. The percentage of people keeping their weight off is really low. The long-term failure rate is extremely high and over 95%.

If you have information overload, I don’t blame you. I’m having a bit of it myself and trying to track down the origins of all weight loss news that I’ve seen in just the last 4 days. One thing, I’m sure of is that I’ll see more in the next few days. I’ll actually be seeking it out. I do need to make sure that I continue to pursue better understanding and translate that into better doing.

One thing I saw this evening on TV that was truly inspiration was Pete Thomas. You may remember him from the Biggest Loser. He recently wrote a new book entitled Lose It Fast, Lose It Forever. It was great to see that he’s had 8-year success and is helping others. The part that was really exciting to me was to see an interview on teh 700 club. I wondered if his faith played any part in his journey and this video confirmed what I thought. Take a look and see for yourself. You can find a link to the video below.

Remember, there is a ton of information out there. You’ll need to continue to pray for wisdom and discernment in order to gain understanding and to be able to put your knowledge to work.
